Whats better
Ok, I've told you all that my son is coming here to to my home to detox off of methadone, he has been doing heroin too, I just found out. This changes things a little. He has been using both and I am assuming that is why he is being tapered so rapidly at the clinic. How do I handle this? He really seems ready to do this and I want to believe him but I don't want to go out and spend all this money on the vitamins or suboxone or the ER visit if he's not ready. Can anyone tell me what is better. Do I wait, or do I believe him. He, by the way, is Rick2385 he just made an account last night. That in itself tells me he's serious. Opinions?

You have to keep in mind this is a "legal detox", not done for the patients benefits. basically, they drop you at a just slow enough dose so that they don't have to worry about lawsuits if the patient develops complications and dies (doesn't make sense...but that's the law).
If he's been on more than 20 mg's of methadone in the last month, you shouldn't try suboxone, it won't work...especially with the oxy's.

I've got a lot of experience with methadone and have detoxed down to the .5 mg's I'm on right now (no easy task) with the method I used... and I'll tell you, wanting to get off is great, but there are physical realities that no matter how much you want it can be overwhelming if not dealt with appropriately.

I am so sorry, I left you a message on the other forum where you had posted earlier to another mom that was asking about her daughter's addiction. I need my reading glasses, too much pc work today!!
Not a politically correct opinion, but I would and did and have done absolutely everything in my power to help my daughter w/d from oxy, to guide her to a road of recovery. Hindsight being 20/20 I wouldn't do it any differently. Gosh, and I go to Al-Anon, where that is really not the mantra, but surprisingly how many parents and wives that actually live with addiction of a loved one, feel exactly as I do.
