Suboxone

What is up with all these suboxone posts? I have yet to see a successful and complacent person who's come off opiates with the help of suboxone. I mean you see lots of people with months of cleantime and success stories of people who used the other traditional remedies such as the thomas recipe, amino protocol, clonidine, gabapentin, antidepressants and my secret, copius ammounts of immodium, also exercise, etc to ease withdrawals and after gone through three relapses and three detoxes of getting clean, these do work effectively. The majority of posts about suboxone are people who praise it, say they feel great or "finally clean!" WHILE still on suboxone?? Then you got posts of people who say they wish they could get off suboxone, been on sub far longer than anticipated, it was a big mistake, the Dr's only want to keep you on it for the money, etc etc. I remember one member, look up dhodge2000 and read his posts and his experience with suboxone. He was a strong and adamant advocate of suboxone (while on it) at first and criticized everyone for giving sub a bad name, even became rude to others who have never been on sub but warned people against it. Unfortunately he changed his tune and came to the realization that you do eventually have to detox from sub sooner or later which is described by many as far worst than detoxing cold turkey from their DOC. I could be wrong because I've never tried sub but I'm just saying, do your research. Nobody likes to tell people who are trying to get clean that "they're doing it wrong", everyone is different but if you weigh the pros and cons just soley by reading every suboxone post (and their follow ups, if any) on this site, you would see suboxone may not be the best option. There's no easy way of getting clean, it's gonna be hell regardless yet it gets wonderfully better when you're in the clear and remain clean. Many blessings.

I am down to 1mg subs. I will let you know if I am a success story soon. I am  using it for a total of 21 days. It gave me a break from my methadone dream world, so I could form a plan with more clarity, not true sobriety. I almost died many times and would much rather be a life long addict of suboxone than any other opiate. I chose this path as a last resort, did a lot of research. I couldn't focus enough to research on methadone, at least in the amount I graduated to. I agree that it is for the hard core addict of stronger opiates. I hope more people will focus on what they are for rather than what they are against, so that we can all help each other better. I've read a lot about people not being able to go cold turkey the first time, but I don't put that approach down because it didn't work for me. Without the break suboxone gave me to know what my goals were, my destination was death. There's a great doctor, Dr. Scanlan who is an addict, that uses suboxone in Palm Beach Florida as part of his treatment. If you are interested in hearing some success stories, browse his web site. Good luck.

"I have yet to see a successful and complacent person who's come off opiates with the help of suboxone."

That only goes to show how few addicts you really know outside this board and how little you know about the subject.

Using Suboxone to get off something like Norco or Vicodin is a mistake IMO. It's a far stronger drug and should only be used for a very short period. Staying on it for an extended period only amounts to trading relatively minor WD's for a longer more protracted WD.

That said, some people do need to stay on it longer to give them a chance to get their lives straight and break old habits, myself being one of them. I have a very, very long history of opiate addiction and the time I spent on Suboxone was the longest period in my adult life I had stayed away from illicit narcotics. It allowed me to stop fixating on illicit narcotics 24/7 and get my life in order. However, I was alway aware Suboxone was a very strong opiate and that my time on it wasn't IMO what I considered clean time.

When I felt like I had gotten my life together sufficiently and could come off it without going back on street drugs I tapered myself off slowly and did so without any WD symptoms beyond a couple nights where I didn't sleep as well as I would have liked.

"I have yet to see a successful and complacent person who's come off opiates with the help of suboxone."

So now you have.

From what I've read about subs is its supposed to be used  for a very very short time.  Yet from what I've seen people get stuck on it for a long time. If you read about subs its 10 times stronger than other opiods. It locks the opiod receptors. And when you run out or withdrawal its dumping everything out at once. Or as I think from a higher amount.. so the detox is worst. And because of the moleculer structure its a harder fall.

Also the half life is super long. Up to 72hrs so when you stop taking the meds you may feel fine for a day or so. Then the h e l l begins.

I went to see a addiction specialist when I was detoxing and he  tried to sell me on its therory. I'm glad I didn't fall for it.

It's a personal choice. I'm in no way bashing subs. Some people lay need it. But please please please do your reaserch first.

That's my opinion
