Hi Jo,

Now I understand. I was confused at first.

There are several things he can do to stop using. One of which is cold turkey. He can just stop and go through the physical withdrawal which will last about a week until he feels better. For him, perhaps only 5 days judging from the amount he is using. He can also taper off until he is down to a low dose and stop from there. It is doable, but difficult and it requires that he stick to a schedule and follow it. It would also be best that you hold the meds and dispense there when needed.

Sounds like hubby has been here before with alcohol. That tells me that he wasn't in recovery with that problem when he turned to the pills. This time around it would a good idea for him to get some sort of support...meetings, counseling or both. He needs to learn how to live life without the use of drugs (I include alcohol as a drug).

Best case scenerio would be inpatient treatment. If he is agreeable to that, and you have the means, I highly recommend it.

Please post and let us know how he (and you) are doing. Any questions, just ask.

Take care of yourself.

Hi Jo,

You can answer on the same post yous tarted. You don't need to start a new one every time...it is easier.

I know about trading your drug of choice. I did it after many years of recovery. Once an addict, always an addict. We have to be so careful.

the amount you were taking is not that bad, relatively speaking so the withdrawal should not last that long, nor be that severe.

I would look into the rectal bleeding. It could be a lot of things, even hemorrhids (sp?). It is a good idea to get a complete check-up, including blood work.

Long long have you been detoxing and what are you experiencing?
