Chronic Cough

My husband has had a constant throat tickle & chronic cough for over 3yrs. He has seen several Dr.'s,ENT,Allergy Spec.,Pulmonary Spec.he's had allergy tests, nasal scoping, breathing & lung tests,x-rays,blood work, etc.Dr's keep saying sinusitis, rhinitis & or chronic post nasal drip.He has had  antibiotics, steroids, nasal sprays ,allergy meds, decongestants etc.,We have tried all sorts of OTC meds.  He coughs up a clear mucus but not all the time. His cough subsides totally at night ,but the minute he gets up he coughs until he vomits many times ,it's worse when he gets overheated & stressed. He's started getting headaches & hurts in his ribs,I'm afraid this cough is creating other health problems. Can stress cause this constant cough like a nervous tick in addition to his already diagnosed condition that he can't find relief for.Can you please help with this exhausting condition,He is desperate to get some relief!

I have had the same exact symptoms for the last year including severe allergies to dust mites, grasses and trees.  I also have non allergic rhinitis which is actually worse than my allergies because anything can trigger it:  weather change, hormones, diet, smells on people, cleaning products, the list goes on and on.  I have been on flonase and astelin since all of this started out of the blue last labor day.  With the help of my allergist I have found that astelin 1 spray each nostril once a day works best for me along with Ocean nasal spray all day long (whenever I get stuffy)
We found that I was on way to many meds, for my system, the flonase kept me congested all day everyday for the entire year.  The combination did stop my cough or at least control it but did like I said keep me congested and caused a lot of face and eye pressure, not to mention exhaustion and 25 pounds heavier.  I became very depressed over feeling like I had a cold and fevers everyday for the last year.  I found it difficult to deal with my 2 and 5 year old children.  I have always been thin and fit but because of this illness I stopped taking care of myself.  A couple of months ago I decided to start taking care of myself again because I know thats what works for me.  I started taking vitamin C 3 to 6 times a day, zinc  twice a day and spirulina tablets (3) twice a day.  So, sorry for all of the history, what it all comes down to for me is I religiously take my vitamins, I ride my indoor bike 30 minutes every morning and try to take a 30 minute walk everyday. ( the exercise used to bring on scary cough spells) but I have found that the vitamins reduce the inflamation in my nose which helps the astelin do its job to stop the cough and congestion.  I started slow with the exercise until the cough got under better control.  I am so so sorry for what your husband is experiencing.  I know how frustrating it is for both of you.  My allergist told me their is no one cure for everyone it is a trial and error process.  I do know several people that the flonase and astelin combo works great for.  They are men too come to think of it.  I'm sure my battle is not over but the above is working great for now.
Just curious:  does your husband smoke?  funny all of this started for me right after I quit.  Hope this helps.  Good luck to you
