MY TONGUE

ABOUT A YEAR AGO I WAS EATING A BAG OF SUPER SOUR LIFESAVERS CANDY AND HAD NOTICED THAT MY TONGUE WAS ACTUALLY BURNING PAINFULLY.  I QUIT EATING THE CANDY AND HAD FIGURED THAT I MUST HAVE SOME SORT OF ALLERGIC REACTION.  SEVERAL DAYS WENT BY AND IT SEEMED TO GET A LITTLE BETTER BUT NEVER FULLY HEALED.  I WENT TO MY FAMILY DOCTOR AND HE WAS A BIT CLUELESS TO WHAT IT COULD BE AND GAVE ME SOME SORT OF TOPICAL CREAM THAT NUMBED THE PAIN.  IT HELPED WITH THE PAIN BUT STILL THESE SPOTS WERE HEALING BUT COMING BACK???  WENT TOO A SPECIALIST HE DETERMINES I HAVE GEOGRAPHIC TONGUE AND INFORMS ME I WILL DEAL WITH IT ALL MY LIFE.  COULD THIS CANDY HAVE TRIGGERED THIS FATE?
HERE I AM ONE YEAR LATER DEALING WITH THE SAME MISERABLE TONGUE PROBLEM WITH NO HOPE IN SIGHT.  THE THING IS THE SPOTS THAT COME AND GO BUT NEVER GO AWAY ARE PAINFULLY FRUSTRATING AND ARE NOT MOVING AROUND ALL OVER MY TONGUE LIKE ALL THE INFORMATION I HAVE RESEARCHED ABOUT GEOGRAFIC TONGUE.  MY PROBLEM IS ALWAYS FOCUSED ONLY ON THE AREA OF TONGUE BURNED BY THE CANDY.  I PERSONALLY FEEL THAT THE TONGUE HAS BEEN DAMAGED IN A SPECIFIC AREA AND ANYTIME I EAT SOMTHING THAT I MAY BE SENSATIVE TOO IT TRIGGERS AN OUTBREAK OF THESE SPOTS TO APPEAR.  THE SPOTS ARE A RESEEDING OF THE SMALL PAPILLIA WHICE EVENTUALLY COME BACK OR HEAL.  ABOUT THE TIME IT JUST HEALS USUALLY ONE DAY OF RELIEF IT STARTS OVER.  I MUST SAY IT IS LIKE A STEADY TORTURE MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY.  IVE TRIED GOOD DIET, NO ALCHOHOL, WATER AND SALAD ONLY NO DRESSING FOR WEEKS TO SEE IF IT WAS REALTED TO FOOD, VITAMINS, TOOTHPASTE CHANGE, REMIDIES FROM THE INTERNET BLA BLA BLA.  NO HELP, NO ANSWER, DOWN RIGHT FRUSTRATING THAT THE DOCTERS ARE CLULESS TO HELP.  IM HOPING I JUST HAVENT REACHED THE RIGHT PERSON TO HELP.  CAN YOU GIVE ME ANY ADVICE?

Hi Rosemary,

you definitley should be checked for vitamin deficiencies.  Both Vit B and Vit C deficiencies could cause the symptoms you are describing.

Hi Rsoemary,

there may be many causes for soreness on the mouth. this may be due to the medication, vitamin deficiency, stress, ulcers and many other reasons. Perhaps you should start taking some multivitamins and ensure that you take all nutrients in your diet.

You may want to consult your doctor and get this sorted out completely.

keep us psoted and let me know if you need any help

Best regards

hi,

reading through your post, i think what you describe is actually the geographic tongue itself. However, there is no specific cure for geographic tongue yet. There may be some options available.

Do you have allergies of any kind?

You may read more about this at:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographic_tongue

hope this was useful. Please let us know if you need more information.

Best regards

I like curries and spicy foods, however for the last year or so I cannot anything like that, I have to eat bland food because my mouth, I guess my tongue, becomes so painfull.  I have pain cleaning my teeth because toothpastes iritate my mouth, and I take about three times longer than anybody else eating my food as my mouth is always sore these days, even with bland food. I am 60 years and I take medication for arthritis, could this be the cause, the only thing that I have started taking in the last 12 months is Brufen, could this be the cause.  Please help me, I am desperate.
