allergies to Nicotain

I have had a iching rash on my back, legs angles and arms that drives me crazy! This has been going on for six years. I have been to my Doctor she gave me Desoximetasone cream and Citalopram 10 mg that was no help. I went to a Dermatoligist he gave me the same cream andHydroxyzine HCL 25 mg to stop itching at night. I"ve seen him for almost a year I still have rash and itching. I know peoples body change as we get older I'm 60 now, but I also smoke cigarettes I noticed the rash and iching is worse when I smoke. I set my quit day as October 6 2009 I would like to know if I could have allergies to nicotain? who knows what's in the tobacco these days

was at the allergist on Wedensday 9/30/09 he said he couldn't help if it were hives it would be something he could help me with. He also said I need to see a Dermatoligist. The rash and snall red bumps came out and the itching all over happened while smoking a cigarette I have smoked for years I quit a few times but went back to smoking. I think it is something in the tobacco. I am quiting for good this time quit date 10/06/09 I really believe it to be allergy to nicotain. everything you mentioned was checked

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
Actual allergy to nicotine is very rare. You could be allergic to any other ingredient mixed with it in the cigarette. You could also be having dermatitis, eczema or psoriasis. Even this could be fungal infections like Tinea cruris and Tinea corporis. However these skin conditions would have been eliminated by the dermatologist.
The rash and itching could also be due to urticaria. Urticaria is usually triggered by allergens, such as drugs, foods, insect bites, inhaled substances, in response to sunlight, cold, heat, stress, exercise, or a viral infection. Other common allergens are pollen, mold, dust, pet dander, or cosmetics. Since you experience an itch, just go over these possibilities in your mind. Something may strike you. Menopause too can cause rash and itching, which responds to hormone replacement therapy.
You should preferably consult an allergy specialist regarding this and take up allergy tests.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
