chest infection

have had chest infection for 5 weeks and coughing up phlegm for at least 2 hours every day..i have taken 2 lots of antibiotics and now on other medication...i am coughing that much now it is making me sick, the mucus is coming from my nose also

Hello and hope you are doing well.

If your symptoms are worsening with the antibiotic then the infecting organism may not be susceptible to the antibiotic. You will need to consult your doctor who may need to do a sputum culture and sensitivity to determine what antibiotic the organism is susceptible to.  He may even ask for blood test and an X ray. In the meantime take OTC acetaminophen if there is temperature, try to take warm oral fluids and do steam inhalations prior to your meals. This helps to loosen up and bring out the secretions.

thank you, the phlegm is coming from my lungs and since this posting i have had a orange coloured discharge from my left nostril, this happened for 3 days and seems to be clearing now although i am still coughing up phlegm it is a more  normal colour

Is it in your lungs or sinuses? Has your doctor done a chest or sinus x-ray?
If your illness is viral, no antibiotics will work.
