smelling cigarette smoke

I saw a related discussion on this, but it is not closed and I didn't think anything applied.  I was out tonight in a restaurant.  All of a sudden I smelled cigarette smoke, although no one was smoking.  This didn't last long, but triggered some asthma.  I took my inhaler.  Cigarette smoke has been a trigger in past.  I wondered if maybe something triggered the association from the past physically, emotionally, or mentally.  Perhaps, because I've been eating cleaner foods, I'm detoxifying and this was some of the old toxins from passive smoke long ago being released.  I just found it curious.

I have never smoke cigaretts, I smell the cigaretts 3 times this week and
longer.  I got into my car and smelled the smoke.  Then I went to the
hopital to see my sister and the first thing she said to me is I smell
cigarette smoke....  And sometimes at home too.  Please give me a
answer and when I couch  I sound like someone who has smoke let it
be known I hate cigaretts.

I thought I was going crazy, as I would smell smoke. My husband said he smelled nothing. This went on for months. THEN I discovered he had taken up smoking! Hmm not crazy afterall.  Many spouses and family members lie about their smoking habits. The smell lingers for a long time including their lungs breath they resperate it out.
