I agree with the comment above. Just had an Aunt that had the same problems. Sometimes it can be diagnoised as Vascular Dementia. Given her diabetes diagnosis would make a stronger case that this may be likely. A consult witha Neurologist would be strongly encouraged.
Hi Barbara. My mother-in-law is 84 and has days that she's totally out of it. She has been diagnosed with dimensia but it seems more like early stages of Alzheimer's (my grandmother had Alzheimer's). She has a tendency to become violent when confronted with things she doesn't like or understand. You and your father should talk with her doctor to let him know her current behavior and find a possible solution to the refusal for the meds. Dealing with the diabetes is top concern, then the rest can be dealt with. If the doctor seems to fluff off your concerns, FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR!!! It seems that the seniors are fluffed off so much, but they require more attention than we do. There are medications to calm her, but watch out for all possible side effects. Please let me know how things work out. It's hard to watch a parent fall apart and not be able to put all the pieces to together for them. Corrine
