minpin in trouble

I am watching my dad's ex wifes minpin. he is over ten... id say about eleven or so. he has had heart problems and beat cancer. his owner dearly loves buster. she is in miami visiting my sister right now and all day today he has been shaking and pooping all over the floor. he is laying down in his bed right now trying to sleep but i can see him shaking vigorously. he also poooped about five mins ago on the carpet... does anyone know what is wrong?? should i take him to emergency? could he have eaten something bad?

It sounds as if he may have herniated a disk in his back, which is a very serious condition.  The increased defection and loss of control can be due to nerve impingement causing decreased function and severe pain.  The second possibility is that he may be having seizures.  Either way he should be taken to a vet.

If it is has a herniated disk he may need emergency treatment to keep him ambulatory.  Serious untreated disk disease can result in paralysis because the spinal cord can be completely impinged, and is often irreversible.
