dequervains tenosynovitus

by rosi69, Feb 17, 2009 10:04AM
I was diagnosed with Dequervains Tenosynovitis in February 2008. I was treated by a hand specialist with a cortisone shut, and prescribed a Thumb Spica splint. This treatment resolved my problem. No,  February 2009 and I am having the same issue and pain in the same wrist. Should I treat myself with icing my wrist and wearing the Spica splint? OR should I go back to the Hand specialist. I am in pain.

Do you have anything you can take or do to relieve the pain?  If not, I would go in just to get relief from the pain.  If you have a way to reduce/alleviate the pain, you might try the ice and splint if you really do not want to go to the doctor but, if it does not improve in a few days, you should definitely get back in to see the doc.

I was dx'd Dequervains Tenosynovitis about 7 yrs ago.  For a while the cortisone shots and anti inflammatories kept the pain at a tolerable level.  I wore a wrist splint...and often slept in it a night.  Eventually that wasn't enough to control the pain.

I had tendon release surgery about 6 yrs ago.  I have not had pain since.  The recovery time was only a few weeks.

You should definately go back to your doctor.  I suffered muscle atrophy in my arm because I waited so long to seek treatment.
