Butt rash

Hoping you can shed some light on this problem & if so thank you in advance.
I am 52 yo recently had a colonoscopy, the prep was discusting & made me vomit, however I got through it.Two days after I was constipated so ate some prunes & took a phillups stool softener to help. The next day I went to the bathroom & when I finished there was blood on the paper, this has been going on ever since. The third day after the proceedure I realised I had a rash on my butt, very itchy, red & sore. Well I have completed a course of Monostat vag' cream & it is still sore & red around my butt. I don't really think it's coming from my vag', any clues?

Hi and thank for using the forum.

The blood that you noted on the toilet paper after having a BM may be the result of your constipation.  Also, sometimes during a colonoscopy a biopsy may be done or a polyp may be removed if found.  Constipation could irritate the site and cause some bleeding.   However, you need to let the physician who did your colonoscopy know about this as well as about the constipation post procedure.

As far as the rash, it could be a fungal infection around your anus.  You could try an anitfungal ointment to that area.  Another possibility is a sensitivity or allergy to a lubricant that was used during your procedure (or perhaps a latex sensitivity?).  You should let your physician know about this as well.  The bleeding you noted on the toilet paper could also be related to the rash/ excoriation on your anus.

I recommend that you follow up with your physician about these symptoms.  Good luck.

Bridget
