Genital herpes or not?

Hi,
I have been very paranoid as few days ago I noticed a bump, kind of like those under skin pimples, on the inside of labia.  I had unprotected sex with my ex about a month ago. We had been together for 3 years prior to that. but broken up in October.  I never had anything like this before  so I freaked out and went to a nurse practitioner, who after examination ruled out herpes and didn't recommend testing 4 it. She did however, test me for chlamydia and gonorrhea.  She said she was pretty sure it wasn't herpes cause it would hurt a lot more, and the liquid coming out of it would be clear and my glands would be swollen. But reading I found that herpes can present itself in different ways. I am literally freaking out over this. She gave me antibiotics and monistat 7. The boil feels tender and I'm a bit red on the other side of my vagina (started after my visit)
Could this be herpes? Should I trust the nurse?
Please help I'm going insane
Thanks

Thanks Bridget I will do the test as I am still worried. The creases of my labia have been hurting too...I have no signs of blistering or cuts but just where the skin folds on the rim of the labia, it feels very tender.  There is so much information online that instead of feeling better I feel more paranoid now :-/
I don't want to undermine the nurse's opinion, but I rather be sure.

Thanks a bunch!

Hi and thanks for using the forum.

The nurse practitioner was right in that, TYPICALLY, the first outbreak of the Herpes virus is severe- fever, swollen glands, lower abdominal pain/pressure and very painful sores.   Also, she may have looked at the sore and felt that it did not look like a Herpes outbreak.  There is a blood test that you can have done to test for the Herpes virus (you would need to be tested for the HSV-2 virus since this is the one that tests for genital herpes).  If you were really concerned, you could ask to have this blood work done.  My thought is that the nurse practitioner must have felt very confident that what she saw was not Herpes since she did not do that specific test but did do the others.  However, if you are really concerned and worried over this you could call and request the lab work.

Good Luck!

Bridget
