Trich Question

Yesterday I got a pap done at my family doctor and she said I tested positive for trichomoniasis.  I was extremely shocked at these results. I have been in a relationship for 8 months with a man who just resently got tested for stds and got a clean bill of health. My man is currently incarcerated so it was the prison who did his testing. If he had a negative test, does this mean that maybe they did not test for trich? I have not told him about the trich yet because he has incredibly low self esteem and I am afraid of his reaction. Is it possible that he does not have the trich even though I tested positive? And does a normal std test find trich? I am sooo confused and stressed! Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

So if he was tested for chlamydia and gonnorhea (sp?) would they have found the trich? Im not really sure how the testing works. Thank you for your help Bridget.

HI and thanks for using the forum.

Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted disease that can be treated with an antibiotic.  IF your significant other was just tested for STD's and came up negative, it is possible that he no longer has the STD.  Trichomoniasis can sometimes cause no symptoms and resolve on its own in MEN.  Women need to be treated with an antibiotic.

Generally, when women are being treated for trichomoniasis, it is recommended that their sexual partners be treated at the same time regardless of whether or not they have symptoms.  So, if you and your significant other are going to remain sexually active together, then you both should be treated.  You should also avoid sexual contact until you finish your treatment to avoid spreading it to another partner.  I hope this helps.  Good luck.
