Asthma and milk

I was born with asthma. As a child into teen, I was able to eat ice cream, yogurt, and drink milk. It was when I hit 19 and my early 20's , when I started getting extreme chest congestion after I ate or drank anything dairy. I can still eat cheese, but I cam no longer eat ice cream or drink milk. Can you tell me if it would make since to try either skim milk or 1%?. I recently tried Soy, but that made me congested as well.

Victoria is right, dairy does create excessive mucus.  Whether you drink whole or skim won't really make a difference in that, but it doesn't hurt to try.

If you are having the same issue with soy milk, then it might not be related directly to dairy, so you might want to mention it to your doctor.

I keep our son away from all dairy due to the fact that it creates excessive mucus and that is the worst thing for his asthma....I have never given him skim or 1% but it all still have milk in it so I would think that it would possibly still produce excess mucus.  If it makes you congested I suppose you will just have to weigh in if it is worth it to eat/drink dairy....we decided no to our son because it almost always clogged him up.
Happy breathing!
