Help, severe asthma issue

For the past week i have been having extreme difficulties with my asthma and no matter what i do or where i go nothing is working, my albuterol solution and iprotrium bromide for the nebulizer, my albuterol sulfate inhaler, anti-allergen medications, even herbal treatments nothing is working at all, i have frequented my doctor he says my lungs sound clear and my oxygen blood level is reading good, however there is a tightness in my left lung and its hard to breathe, im having to use the nebulizer a lot just to keep sypmtoms down, im tasting blood when i cough or exhale and the symptoms get about 10x worse at night when i try to sleep, he says its very unlikely to be pnemonia or bronchitis, he said he is baffled and doesnt know what the problem is. any ideas?

My question is, is there any general method to synthesis an inhalation solution, mine would be strictly vitamin and herbal based and targeted to help treat asthmatic sypmtoms, the solution would be used in a nebulizer, and would it be safe to use a vit/herb liquid solution to breath in? my thoughts on this are that some herbs or vitamins if directly diffused through the respiratory epithlium might have a quicker effect and more effectively cause bronchiodilation and possibly decrease mucous levels and inflammation better than if ingested.

Dude,

You're a Med Student.  Sounds to me like you need a steroid regiment to get you right.  I have suffered Asthma all my life.  You should also get a chest X-Ray.  If your Doc is not taking your symptoms seriously and treating them accordingly, FIRE him and go to someone with a little compassion.

The herbal stuff could actually be aggravating your situation.........

I would get your doctor to do a chest x-ray to see if there is any infection present there.  Otherwises, I'm at a similar point, asthma flare-up and nothing is working (however I'm on pred, advair, singulair, ventolin and nasonex).

It looks like you are not on a preventor medicine, it may be time to start it.  Also, do you keep track of your peak flows?  I only get wheezy even my peak flow drops quite a bit, mild attacks my lungs always sound clear.

I'm not sure about the herbal inhalations, might be best to direct that one to a herbal doctor or homopath.
