Hi,

I have heard the same thing --- they only give oral when absolutely needed and rely on inhaled as first line of defense.

Cortisone shots for asthma haven't been used as main-line therapy for over seventy years.

They will work, however the side effects are severe, including, but not limited to shutting down the immune system, deterioration of the spinal column, and atrophy of the adrenal glands. Cortisone also affects behavior, making people more angry, verbally abuse and irritabity.

Current medical thinking in the United States is to use steroids only as a last resort and in tiny amount administered through an aerosol inhaler.
