Asthma should be controlled by inhaled corticosteroids and I think they are not really expensive. Acute exacerbations should be controlled by injection of corticosteroids such as methylprednisolone and if nessicery, antibiotics. Because very severe conditions may alert doctors that the patient may have respiratory failure, I suggest you to seek medical help immediately if you feel discomfort any more.
Dizziness and almost fainting may be due to medication side effects or the lack of oxygen in your blood stream. If you are having extreme attacks, you must be on some sort of preventative measure every day.
Pains in your chest may be from a bad attack (I feel like I'm breathing sandpaper or nails after an attack) or could be heart related.
You should see a doctor to may sure everything is okay, there could be other issues going on besides the asthma with your heart or lungs.
Bad attacks normally need an increase or initation of steroids, either inhaled or oral to calm the lungs down. Without taking charge of increasing symptoms you are more likely to have another severe attack that could kill you.
Soooo if you are still having symptoms, then no you are not okay and should see a doctor with or without insurance.
