Can someone help!

by shirl000, Feb 21, 2008 11:30PM
I'm hoping someone can help me or give me their opinions. My primary thinks I have Lupus but wants to comfirm diagnosis with a rheumy. I was hoping to get some input from others who have some knowledge about the disease. I am very scared. My blood work looks like this......

High ANA
positive (Anti-SM) Smith antibodies
positive RNP antibodies

Can this be something other than Lupus or is Lupus the preferred diagnosis for this blood work? Thank you

I am in the same boat and was hoping to read what others had stated, since my question, too, was left unanswered.  Did you ever get any info from your doc concerning this?  Thanks.

Wish I could help you guys but, I am still waiting to see a rheumy about all of my symptoms...the only thing I would suggest is to try using another title for your question..."can someone help" is not specific enough, but, I do understand that that is what you want!  Try something with antibodies test and autoimmune in the title, that is more likely to catch people's eyes and they will want to help you!!  what about "Help with results of antibody test results...good luck to you both!!

Another reason that you may not get any responses is that the antibodies can be positive in more than one autoimmune disease.  Off the top of my head, the antibodies you mention can be positive in SLE and MCTD.  So, it is hard to say from non Docs.  Maybe if you would mention what symptoms you are having may be more helpful..  Just a thought.  Hope you get the answers you need.  When is your Rheumy appointment?  Karen
