Hope a Doctor can reply to this question

Over the years I have had many symptoms and changes to my body and no one has given me a reason why.  I have seen many doctors, I get frustrated and go to the next doctor and still I get nowhere.  Over the last 3 years I have begun having periods of extreme muscle pain, where my muscles seem to almost clinch or tighten and I cant release them,  muscle weakness to where I at times could not even feed myself, my hands and feet tingle all the time and go numb and I fall down or drop things.  My hands lock up and I cant move them I have to take the other and to unlock it.  Headaches and Migrains, Dizzy spells.  And recently over the last 6 months or so I have started sluring my words and over the last2 months or so my vision in one eye is messed up.  Everything seems to come in waves sometimes I will have the problems for a few days and sometimes for months, everything seems to come and go but is getting worse over the years and some of the problems seem to stay with me just not as bad during my, well I guess you can call them almost attack periods.  I have not seen a neurolgist, my doctor now seems to believe that all of my problems are weight related.  He said "there is no medical science to prove it, but he believes that all obesis people have health problems because they are over weight."    Also over that last 3 years since this all began I have gained 60 lbs I believe in part because I am not able to be as active as I used to be.

I believe the response that you attributed to your doctor. It seems that treating and "caring" for patients that happen to be overweight has become an ever-diminishing practice among doctors today. Not all of them, but a sizable percentage that are healthy themselves (both young and old) find stereotyping preferable to actual diagnosing and treatment. Especially when a patient presents that requires an effort, as well as a pronounced clinical ability, beyond the day-to-day routine that most physicians "peg hole" themselves into. I believe that there are a "lot" of people out here that require a greater effort to diagnose and treat than most physicians are willing to dedicate themselves to. Most of them are severely overworked and have, willingly, taken on a patient load that "NO ONE" can adequately and properly care for. That is their choice and, unfortunately, the reality for the rest of us. I wholeheartedly agree with the other posters here that you should find a new physician. As your story is by no means unique, I do wish you well ... we all do.

Such severe muscle weakness alone requires the attention of both a neurologist and a rhumatologist. If your insurance doesn't require it I would just schedule appointments for them yourself and skip a PCP.

Your posting brought me to tears.  I am so upset that a doctor would dismiss such real symptoms.  It is like saying you won't fix an elderly person's broken leg because all elderly people have brittle bones and are sore.  Disgusting!  Run to a new doctor fast.  Early treatment is the key.  Good luck!

I have to agree with PlateletGal.

If your doctor has NEVER sent you for a MRI , ct scan, or even given you a referral to a neurologist than you need to dump him.  Not everything is related to being over weight. You deserve better treatement, remember he works for you....

Get another doctor!!
