extreme stiffness in back ribs but injury is in lower back

Hi Everyone,
Since my last back muscle pull last week I have had very stiff back muscles or ribs (can't tell it is all locked up) in the morning. I wake up at about 4  a.m. and can;t get back to sleep because the back is so stiff. As soon as I get out of bed in the morning and sit with heat pack on my lower back and make breakfast it goes away. Usually, when I get a muscle pull or sprain in my lower buttock by muscles hurt in the lower back and Ileum area. What is going on now? I do get up at  4 a.m and try to stretch and rub my back but it doesn't go away until the morning....

Hi...many times muscles other than those directly affected can get sore and stiff bcuz of the way we compensate for the pain....

The other muscles may twist and turn to give support where the weakened muscles need it.
Try using ur heat pack up where u r stiff..and not just on the injury area.

I pray u feel better soon

A trick I learned to loosen up the spine:

I bought  one of those kids basket balls (about half size) and roll my spine up and down it on the floor. Lower pressure works better -it widens out then and will not hurt.

Thanks for your comments. I am hoping since it is only in the morning that it isn't a new injury.  It makes sense what you are saying about muscles compensating etc.
I'll try the heat up there too.
