ADD / ADHD or Mood disorder / scizoaffective playing up.

Is ADD / ADHD simmilar to Bipolar hypo/mania ? Reason i'm asking is i have terrible concentration and short attention span , and lot of the time things go in one ear out the other its like my brain don't register . I can't even watch tv for longer then 30mins and reading books is out of question . Everything else is ok now or atm .

Hi Stormbear, I too have trouble concentrating and a short attention span. Put meds in the mix and boy am I worse. This is the way I live. I just deal with it. It does interfer with life but I've excepted it. So your not alone. As for coping skills, the best place I know to get them is from therapy. I find DBT Therapy most helpful overall. Have you ever been diagnosised with ADHD/ADD? If you have either, have you considered medicine. I have never been diagnosised but their is little doubt I have it. There is also a program on the computer called Lumosity. It gives you a certain period of time to use it and the cost after that is minimal. They can even email you a daily reminder to play. They are comprised of games and really helps you brain. Check it out, it's free to start and see what you think. It is suppose to help with problems like ours and other parts of the brain.

Hi Crystal , I'm well thanks

On Mondays, we go to gym 1hr have lunch then a convo group where we can listen to music go on internet play guitar or board games or just hangout at the office . On Tuesdays, we play ten pin bowling then have lunch then we can hangout at office do as we please talk , play games or guitar piano etc...
Wednesday , gym . lunch then tennis or insted of tennis therapy session with like self help dvds and poetry or creative writing , and also singing classes every 2nd week,
Thursday , Coffee at different cafes each week around the city  then swimming and then we can go to office do as we please .
Fridays we have pizza's for lunch then watch movies or we can play games or use internet etc... So that's my week pretty much , Oh i forgot to mention the office is like a drop in centre open from 10am - 4;30pm wk days, so theres always workers there and also by appointment they do life coaching and 1 on 1 counceling .

It is really great for us all , it keeps us in good spirits and from isolating to much i'm so grateful they have this for mental health consumers in our city and they run a program simmilar to ours over on the North Side too.

I think you'll like the games. It's something different anyway. I've tried both CBT and DBT. Everyone is different in the way they respond to information. For me personally, DBT works better for me. They are just different forms of therapy.  I would give anything to do group activities. What kind do you do? I would love some ideas. Anything really. Enjoy your games and be well. Crystal

One thing I forgot to mention. Bipolar effects our cognitive abilities. Many meds  effect the same things we are experiencing as well. And the combo of both, meds and our reduction of cognitive abilities makes it more challenging. So it may not necessarily be ADHD/ADD causing the symptoms you mentioned.

HI,

I'm all too familiar with Bipolar symptoms the (highs and lows) and psychosis as i was diagnosed with Schizo-affective disorder . I just don't know why i'm having these concentration and attention difficult .

It sure is very difficult to live with , in saying that i'm always looking for new coping tools.

good morning. add is attention deficer disordor. adhd is attention hyper active disorder . bipolar is more a mood disorder. i have both adhd and bipolar. with the bipolar i have really high highs where my mood is like i am so happy and like i'm floating on the happiness cloud. the like a drop of a hat i go to a really deep dark angry place and i am chicken little and they sky is falling. and everything is going wrong and a terrible depression kicks in. days or weeks my pass during each high or low thing.  it is a very difficult disorder to live with and very miss understood
