Congratulations on quitting smoking - that is a big one and baby will thank you for it. People are generally inward looking. If you yell at them or irritable they will assume it is something to do with them. If you haven't tried it, meditation can help call the irritability. May be worth a shot.
And the studies do show that the risk to baby in second trimester from medications is a lot lower - being depressed however is associated with pre-term labour, and unproductive labour resulting in c-sections. So there are risks both ways. From my research lamotrigine is one of the better ones. It has been studied more because it is also used in epilepsy.
I am considering getting preggers myself so I have been doing a lot of thinking over the meds/no meds debate.
I'm 22wks pregnant & bipolar 2. By the 2nd trimester almost all of your meds can no longer affect the baby. Going cold turkey is dangerous. It's way more important that you're back on your meds under Dr. supervision. I'm on Lexapro, Lithium, Abilify & anti anxiety. All on Dr's order. If in CA. UCI, Dr. Toohey specializes in meds during pregnancy. Good luck!
hello im 28 years old and bipolar also type 2...... first of all you should not have been taken off all your meds with no replacement.... there are plenty of rxs out there that are safe for pregnant womenunder guidance of dr.i have had 2 childrenwhile on medication for bipolar both were healthy and beautiful point is i would def talk to your dr about meds good luck and congrats
