Hi,
I fought the meds for quite some time as well.
Now that I know this illness progresses, and my mood swings were getting worse, I finally gave in. I researched my options on the internet, what meds are available ect., and peoples experiences with each med. Then researched bipolar.
This knowledge made it easier for me to feel in control of my recovery, and to work with my psychiatrist to find the right meds. I refused to sit back and not be involved with choices about what med I put into my body. That helped me to feel involved in the process.
There are many med options available nowadays, so we do have choices.
Takes about 6 weeks to find out if any given med is working, so patience with the process is neccessary.
In my opinion, this is a dangerous illness, and suicide is a real concern without meds.
The meds can ease your suffering. The way I looked at it, is why not try it, if it doesnt work I can always go back to being unmedicated. This thought helped me to take the first step. Now that I have experienced improvement, I am so glad I did get medicated, we have a brain illness.
Wishing you all the best in your search to find a way to manage this illness. It is possible to manage and see improvement.
Hugs darlene
My mom has been. Diagnosised with bipolar syndrome about three years ago, I've noticed growing up with her taking care of me and my siblings. That she would flip out on my dad not that he's was perfect. Me and my mom used to be really close. My parents spit up about 4yrs ago a yr before she got diagnosised my dad used to tell me she had a slight. Problem but I thought it was him that made her act that way,.. when she got diagnosised she started taking meds she was ok I guess she just seemed so. Sad but her oldest born me used to take her shopping out breakfast lunch or dinner what ever she wanted to do movie what ever it was I just wanted to make her happy...last year she just stopped taking medication don't understand y...I ended up geting pregnant, she moves far right everything fine between us ..baby was born she was at hospital whole time then Isherwood wanted me to come stayweeks at her place so every other week I was there she ask me to move in in ..that made my baby's father very upset we started having problems a brake up
I suggest finding a good therapist to talk over your medication concerns with. There are places that run on something called a sliding scale where if you earn less you pay less. Because meds can really make a big difference in your life for the better. I couldn't exist without them.
There are a lot of reasons for being dizzy and light headed. For example you may have low blood pressure. It may also be anxiety. That can do it to you. I would first talk to my general doctor to rule out any physical ailment.
