Hello my name is brandi I am 23 weeks pregnant. I want to breast feed but I am bipolar. Does anyone know of any safe medications for bipolar that are safe for breastfeeding?

When they test new medications for side effects they only test on non-pregnant adults, not kids, not babies, not fetuses. There is no way to know if your medications will affect your fetuses or your baby should you breastfeed. If it was me, I would opt for formula and taking my medication. This is from someone who breastfed for two years.... I feel that since we can't know for certain if a drug is safe for a baby then we shouldn't take a chance of damaging her or him.

Yeah she was bipolar and I am as well.  I have been prescribed it before but I had little luck with it.  It seemed to work for her.  She switched from 11mg Zoloft to 150mg Wellbutrin.

I don't know much about it but my ex was put on Wellbutrin and they said that it was ok to breast feed on it.  Just wanted to give you a response, someone else will likely be able to tell you more
