Hello - and thank you for your reply.
My wife has recently been diagnosed with hypertension and was prescribed Atenolol.
I am older and have received medication to control my own high blood pressure for more than 30 years starting with beta blockers.
For the last few years I have been successfully taking ACE inhibitors combined with a calcium channel blocker ( perindopril and amlodipine).
Would my wife (aged 44) be better of with these medications?
Hello,
Yes it is true that there have been many new drugs after atenolol but atenolol is still prescribed by many doctors as antihypertensives. Newer drugs belonging to the category of beta blockers have come up and these include betaxolol, carvedilol, propranolol, timolol and labetalol.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
