Hi thank you his ferritin level was 574 he has to go for gene tests and a lot of other test to determine if it is hemocromotosis. My bloods came back ok but doc told me to get them repeated after my periods stop as my aunt was tested about 20 years ago and was negative to hemocromotosis and now she is positive but think I am just going to ask for gene test.
Hi!
Ferritin levels are high in hemochromatosis, inflammation, liver disease, and some types of cancer, and in patients who have had multiple transfusions. If your father has normal LFT then probably liver causes are ruled out. If he is otherwise fit then cancer and multiple transfusions are ruled out. So, yes, hemochromatosis is a possibility. Let the doctors get back to you. Take care!
