Macroadenoma found on pit. So scared now.

HI all and I'm new on this forum. Here's a run down of whats been happening with me.

The last few months I haven't been myself. Symptoms..Feeling run down, Dull headache that comes and goes, Loss of appetite, and dizziness that comes and goes.

So I had enough so go to Doc he orders an MRI with contrast, Get a call from doc the next day that he wants to see me. See Doc and he informs me they found A  suspected 1.2 cm tumor (12mm) in my pit. He tells me it's most likely Begin and not to worry. So I need to go now for blood work Prolactin and ATCH to see if Active or non active Me thinks. Also another MRI this time a cella MRI. SO my heart dropped when he told me I had a tumor.

So please help what can I expect and will they treat this? also What does my future hold If I need an operation?  I have yet to see a Specialist as this is new and waiting for a phone call for that appt when ever that is. SO please make my mind stop thinking of the worst.....Thank you.

Typically, pituitary tumors are slow growers but when they are over 10mm, they are considered a macro and may be a non-functioning tumor and may be a faster grower.

It all depends on testing so you need a good endo on your side!

HI again, Thanks Lucy for your insight. Like I said I am feeling dull headaches with some dizziness with on off stomach issues. I was wondering will I start to have anymore symptoms that I should be looking out for? also do these tumors grow fast as Mine is only 1.2 cm. and still waiting for appt to see a pit surgeon at a pit center in Toronto.

Apparently a lot of people have small tumors on their pituitary gland and never know it. Live their lives normally never knowing. Its only when symptoms start and we look for answers they sometimes find them.
They are normally benign and dont cause any troubles. Sometimes they grow and interfer with surrounding structures and cause symptoms, hence having to be removed. Sometimes they are active tumors causing increased hormone production, hence causing symptoms and needing to be removed.

I had 95% of my pituitary gland removed 6 months ago as i had an over abundance and hyperplasia of the ACTH cells in my pituitary gland. Im still alive :). My Pituitary gland, although only being 5% is still has normal hormone functions so i dont have to take any hormone replacements :)

Every story is different, but honestly, pituitary surgery if necessary is not such a big deal. Just make sure your doctor does all relevant testing and answers all your questions :)

Good luck
