post op sinus infections

I had two pit tumors removed Dec 2014. My recovery went normally, but at 5 months post op I got a terrible sinus infection. Antibiotics for a week, cleared up for a week and then reinfected, antibiotics again for 7 days, clear for a week, then reinfected. ENT that performed surgery said she removed a lot of my turbinates and I have a quarter sized hole into my sphenoid sinus now and its a clear shot for bacteria I breath in directly. CT scan now shows thicken mucous membrane in sphenoid sinuses (which I understand is fertile ground for infection.) Dr. says no to prolonged antibiotic therapy. What a merry-go-round of sinus infections.

Anyone else have reoccurring sinus infections after having trans nasal pit tumor surgery?

It was awful during the appointments, but it was actually a relief after it was done if that makes sense.

I had a very nice ENT and that also helped.

I was in my 40's doing this. I think it is really natural to be fearful. You have lived with it for a long time though and I hope you have a network to come to "terms" with it. I have no adrenals and live with a similar situation as life is fluid, you may be okay one minute and all heck break loose the next but we have an active on-line group where we discuss treatments, daily life and how no one can understand unless they are in our shoes.

Powering... eh... muddling. :)

I got a sinus infection post op... In my sphenoid. I was on nasty antibiotics that did not help and there was no escaping the smell.

I ended up going back to my surgeon and he drained the site.  Then my ENT scrapped it weekly (this was very painful) until we got it under control...

I would guess you need a great ENT to work with your surgeon.
