breast biopsy

I got refered for a ultrasound/biopsy, because a previous ultrasound picked up a small intramammary lymph node, and when i went to have it done, the lady who was doing the ultrasound said i wouldn't need a biopsy because everything looked very normal, then she showed the radiologist and he said i could go home as everything looked fine. I didn't bother getting a follow up appointment with the gp, but now i am getting letters saying that the test results show the need for a follow up appointment. I called the surgery to ask about it, and they asked the doctor, who said i do need to go in so he can discuss why they didn't do the biopsy.
Does this mean i might have breast cancer? Why would he want to see me if everything was normal?

Did you get this letter from your GP after 6 weeks? B'coz the GP will have a follow-up appointment after 5 weeks. I too have a Fibroadenoma and went for the US guided biopsy after 2 mammos to make sure this one is non cancerous. After 5 weeks, I got a letter from my GP for follow-Up and I call my GP abt this and she asked me to cancel the appointment because she already saw my biopsy results. In your case your GP did not see your Biopsy results, may be that's the reason she is asking you to go for the biopsy. So, some times the GP's will make sure every thing is clear from her side. And also may be she has some suspession also.

No matter what it is, it's always advisable to follow the doctors choice to go for the biopsy to rule out the suspession.

All the best and stay positive.

Dear leisa111, It is difficult to say why he would want to see you.  Based on what you have written in your question it sounds like he just wants to be sure you are understanding the rationale for his recommendations, and giving you an opportunity to have a discussion to clarify and answer your questions.  If there was concern of a possible cancer they would be considering a biopsy.
