Breast Cancer-uterine fibroid connection?

by Mks, Mar 17, 2005 12:00AM
Are there any statistics on women who have had a hysterectomy because of uterine fibroids who later developed breast cancer?

Dear Mks, Estrogen may play a role in the development of both breast cancer and uterine fibroids (benign tumors of the uterus).  Uterine fibroids, however, are quite common and are generally not considered a risk factor for the development of breast cancer.

because fibroids and breast cancer are both common, many women will have both, with or without having hysterectomy, and with or without ovaries being removed along with the uterus. There's no relation between fibroids and breast cancer.
