abnormal mammogram

I am a 62 year old.....I have had mammograms every year since I turned 50.  All were fine until last February.  6 months ago....they called me back for a spot mammo and then called me back for an ultrasound on both breasts.  There were a lot of cysts or as I was told all the spots (there were 14 of them, were filled with water)  This I can live with.  However, there was one that was questionable that was "deep".  They said to wait 6 months and have a repeat mammo.  I did and waited afterwards for the tech to dismiss me...she came back and said they were going to do another spot.  Then the tech (nurse) came back and said the guy who read the films said there was a "small change" but nothing to be concerned about.  I am concerned with any change!  I am a smoker and have been on HRT for almost 15 years.  Can't seem to get past the night sweats and hot flashes.  The nurse said the radiologist is recommending to my doctor to wait another 6 months and do it again.  That will take me to the year mark!  Should I get a second opinion from a womens center?   I certainly can't feel anything.     I thank you in advance for any advise you can give me.

Dear chixie:  Without reviewing the mammogram and ultrasound, it is impossible for us to speculate on whether this spot/change would merit immediate investigation or whether it is acceptable to wait 6 months.  If you are concerned, a second opinion may be worth considering.  You may also want to discuss whether there are alternatives to HRT with your doctor.

Sounds like "they" are certainly on top of things. If there is only a slight change another mammo in 6 months sounds reasonable. you are certainly entitled to a second opinion .... but only to have your films read by another Radiologist. I wouldn't have additional testing unless your Physician thinks another Ultraound might further clarify things for you. Regards .....
