Breast lump

I am a 33 y/o who was recently was examined by my PCM for a lump I found in my right breast.  During the examination, she determined that I needed a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound and referred me to the surgeon.  I had the mammogram and ultrasound last week.  At that time, I found out the doctor actually found 5 distinct lumps in a small area.  The ultrasound alone took 30 minutes.  Should I be worried about this since I have a family history of breast cancer and the lumps themselves are not painful, but the area under my armpit is extremely sore?  None of the techs in radiology could tell me anything and I won't see the surgeon until Thursday.  Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi Angel,
Have you already schedule the removal? Or maybe it has been already done?
I have the similar problem and similar feelings. I have the appointment with a surgeon on 7/18.  So, please share your experience.

Angel, you should post your question as a new thread. The staff doesn't moniter the comments made by other site users. My doctor just found a lump on my right breast and I am seeing the ultrasound tech tomorrow. I too, am afraid of the possibility of having something removed. My best guess is that they will make a small incision and remove the mass, but really I have no idea. Best of luck to you.

New to the site, but very concerned. I went to my Dr. about a tender lump in my right breast at the 9 o'clock position. I am 23 years old, and do not have a history or breast cancer. My doctor sent me for a Mamm where I was then sent (by request of the technician) for an ultrasound. It has been concluded that I have a 104x1.6x.8 cm slightly heterogeneous breast nodule. My Dr. wants to have the mass removed, not just a biospy done. I am SCARED of what they are going to do, what to expect, and how to handle this unexpected stress. If anyone has any suggestions I would be most greatful. I try to act perfectly normal about it, but I am TERRIFIED. I meet with the surgeon on June 20th to schedule the removal, but my nerves are in knots.....thank you all for your support and outreach, you are wonderful.

Sincerely,
Angel

Dear Tamu33:  Lumps can be many things, including cysts, fibroadenomas and cancer.  If there are 5 lumps, the ultrasound technician would have wanted to be sure all 5 were visible and that all of the areas of concern were reviewed.  Without examination and review of the films, it is impossible to speculate on what these lumps may be.
