Did I Find it Early

I had fibrocystic changes in my breast for many years and eventhough my mamograms have been normal I asked my doctor for a biopsy. After the surgery, he said everything looked great but the final report came back DCIS component, and well differential invasive ductal carcinoma grade1/3. Tumor size was 1.5 cm diag. I then had more tissue removed and a sentinal node mapping done . I just saw the surgeon that said the margins were clear and the nodes were clear. He was pleased to tell me his job was done and now I have an appointment withe the oncologist. I'm not afraid because I have great faith but I just want to make sure I found this early. The surgeon told me this was and early stage 1. Also the surgeon was never rushed kind and treated me with such respect and care and that made such a difference in dealing with these surgeries. Thank you for your time

Dear broken hero,  A tumor less than 2.0 cm in size without evidence of spread to nearby lymph nodes or distant sites would be staged at Stage 1, which is an "early" stage of breast cancer.  A treatment plan  following surgery may include radiation therapy, chemotherapy and/or hormone therapy.   The medical oncologist will be able to fully discuss with you the risks and benefits of the various treatment options.

Yep, that's early, with at least a 90% chance of being cured!
