So what is my risk of developing cancer? They did do a surgical excision. I would appreciation as much info as possible. The surgeon said they do nothing about this and suggested follow up in three months to see how I was healing followed by Mammogram to record the change in the breast. I wonder if I should be on any preventive medication?
thank you

Dear LindsayLee: It is true that Atypical Lobular Hyperplasia does slightly increase the risk of developing breast cancer. In your situation, the atypical lobular hyperplasia is preceded by two words that may influence interpretation. Focal means that there is a very small area. Equivocal means uncertain. So it would appear that the report suggests that there is uncertainty regarding a small area of atypical lobular hyperplasia. This might be worth a pathology review. Nonetheless, in any case of atypical lobular hyperplasia, after removal the follow-up is generally close surveillance
