Hi. I underwent a needle biopsy and they saw atypical epitheleal cells. The MRI showed areas of enhancement. The surgeon still doesn't want to operate, even though I have consistent (every day) pain in the lump (under left arm) and pain and swelling in my left breast. If you've heard of anything like this, please advise. Anti-inflamatories and antibiotics aren't helping. Thanks!

Dear jrh955, Hyperplasia means that there are more cells than normal. Epithelial hyperplasia, describes cells from the skin or lining of an structure. Atypical means that the cells are abnormal and it is hard to figure out what type of cell they may have originated from. Atypical hyperplasia if it continues and the cells multiply within the duct this is known as DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ).
