I'm having a lumpectomy next tuesday

I'm 27 years old. Diagnosed with:  Well circumscribed oval hypoechoic structure at 12'o clock measuring 0.9 * 0.6 *0.97 cms and another well circumscribed iso-ecoic oval structure at 10'o clock measuring 2.02 * 0.87 * 1.78 cms both compatible with solid mass on the left breast.  It says that lesions appears to be of solid nature without giving posterior acoustic enhancement and clinical correlation.

Surgeon said:  Two solid nodules, this tuesday he is going to take them out.

I am very scared.  Question by this, can you tell if it's cancer?  Do I have to wait until the do a biopsy?  Is this procedure long?  What do I have to know about this procesure?

Please someone?

I ALSO HAVE SEEN A SURGEON 3/12 FOR "PROBABLY BENIGN" LUMP. AND HE SAID THAT SINCE MY LUMP IS SMALL 1.2 X .70 THAT HE IS NOT SURE ONCE HE GOES IN THAT HE CAN FIND IT..NOW I AM UNSURE AS TO HAVE THE LUMPECTUMY BECAUSE IF I COME OUT AND LUMP IS STILL THERE, THEN WHAT?  ANY ADVICE OUT THERE?

Thanks everyone for your comments.  At this point I feel more relaxed, now that I know a lot of women done this before.  I thought it was something terrible happening to me.  Now that I have read about this I understand that is a simple procedure.  The most important thing is to act rapidly.  I lost a aunt because of this and was very scared.  But you have to be willing to do anything for your well being.  I have met a lot of people that wouldn't do a mamography because they are scared, and that is a big mistake.  Ladies act rapidly.  Do what ever it takes for your well being and you'll be alright.

Bless you all.

I am also 27 and my comment is maybe a mixed blessing. Last September I had an excisional biopsy for a fibroadenoma (a benign growth). It felt good to get it out and know for sure. The procedure is not too bad and the soreness passed quickly and was a mild interruption. Then, I found a new lump in November. This turned out to be cancer. I've had surgery and have started chemo. I'm not telling you this to scare you, but to tell you, whatever the results (most likely my first experience!) you will be great and will handle it with grace. I know it's anxiety producing, but you will be great and my prayers are with you that it turns out well. Please feel free to write if you would like someone the same age to correspond to on this.

Many blessings,
Isissydney

Hi,
I know its scary facing an excisional biopsy, I'm having mine on monday for cluster microcalcifications. This will be my 3rd surgery. I had 2 previous lump removals about 10 years ago for fibroadenomas.
It usually only takes about an hour and you'll be able to go home that day. You might be a little sore for a few days.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope that your lumps are benign and you'll feel better knowing they are out of your breast.
This site and many others offer a wealth of information on breast lumps and different biopsy options. I have done ALOT of reading since I found out about my microcalcifications. It helps to be informed. Knowledge is power so they say :0)
Take care.

Dear mdamiani:  It sounds as though an excisional biopsy will be done - removal of the two lumps.  This procedure usually involves anesthesia and a small incision, done on an outpatient basis.  Depending on the amount of breast tissue both before surgery and after, there may or may not be a noticable change in the shape of the breast.  You are very young to have breast cancer but it's not impossible.  Because the lumps are solid, not fluid-filled (cyst), the only way to be certain of what they are is to do a biopsy.  Hopefully, it will prove to be negative.
