It's proven medical research that women who have their ovaries removed die younger than the average woman....risk of heart disease/stroke goes way up. Women should be informed of this before making decisions that will affect the rest of their life. Many physicians recommend women have their ovaries removed, even when it isn't necessarily in their best interest. I speak from personal experience. If a woman has one of the brca genes, then it is definitely advisable to have ovaries removed. I kept my ovaries after my bc diagnosis and am an 8 year survivor. Best of luck to anyone having to make these tough decisions.
Here in our Community we advise patients to make these kinds of decisions on the advice and counsel of their Oncology Team as well as any other Physician involved in their particular situation. We also usually advise that searching on the Internet for such information is not a good idea for several reasons .... stats are very general and very few persons can understand all the research language as they shouldn't be expected to unless they have had an extensive Medical Education. Thank you .......
