Lump on armpit but underage for a mamogram!

I have a lump on my left armpit. I've had it since 2002. I think. I've asked my doctor about it when i go for my physicals but he tells me not to worry about it. That its probably a milk gland that is swollen or an ingrown hair. Comeon ive had it since and its grown. Now its about an inch. I am 30 years old so i dont qualify for a mamogram but I am very scared of what it might be. My grandmother was diagnosed with cancer about 10 years ago. She had 2 tumors growing on each side of her breasts. She lost one of them due to the cancer but thank god she is still alive. But it really gets me worried that I dont know what is going on with my body. I dont think its milk gland cuz I gave birth last on 2002. Please help.

Dear concerned in Texas, Without benefit of physical examination and ability to ask questions it is difficult to advise.  In general, a lump that is changing in size should be evaluated.

You may have to pay for the mammogram yourself but it will be worth it in the long run to give you some answers.

Insist upon a mammogram and /or ultrasound. Breast cancer in someone Thirty is rare but not impossible.
Remember it is YOUR life not the doctor's. It is ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry.
