Sore lump under left nipple

Hi

I have had a sore lump under my left nipple for about a month now. It has grown to the size of a small pea.
Does anyone know what this could be or had any experiences of this and would this describe any cancer symptoms.

Many thanks

Paul

Hi Paulio,
I too am experiencing changes in my breast and noticed that I'd never had pain before in the lumpy structures that are new to the breast. I'm 48 yrs old, am in surgical menopause since 2005, not due to cancer but due to other chronic conditions that were adding up to trouble. My uterus, ovaries, tubes and cervix were removed. I could not for the life of me handle the sudden menopause. so my gyno put me on the estrogen patch. I've been on this now since 2005 mind you. NO ONE told me it wasn't safe to stay on estrogen past 3 yrs.
My breast started feeling different each month when I gave myself exams. I wasn't sure if what I was feeling was supposed to be there. I'd never felt it before and it felt like a sharp pain going through it when I pressed on it during my self exam. and there was other areas that hurt too, on the side and top of the breast.
I was a little concerned but it let it go by, until I had my yearly exam by my gyno who RX's the estrogen for me, told me to go for an ultra sound because I mentioned to her that my breast feels very dense compared to the way it usually feels.
I since had an ultra sound, than was referred for an MRI with contrast, back to the breast surgeon who mumbled something about doing a biopsy, U/S directed or MRI directed, which ever person who I choose to perform it for me. was told the radiologist herself wants to re do the ultra sound in her place and personally by her, and doesn't want to go by the one that I just had a different hosptials facility, so now I have to wait till theres an opening which is not till May 11th. she's so busy doing breast biopsies that I feel she doesn't have enough time to ck. me and I just want to get this thing over with!
so my suggestion would be to get it ck'd out.
some forms of breast cancer DO hurt. I don't know what the percentage is and of course every woman is different in their symptoms.
if this is bothering you, you wont' have peace of mind till it's either gone, or till you see a dr. for it.  The breast sugeon told me that JUST being a WOMAN, puts us at risk and no more the fact that just because we have a strong family history of it. That's pretty frightening to hear. It seems that breast cancer is really rising and it's effecting younger and younger woman too. woman in their early 20's.
which used to be a very rare occurance in the past. not anymore.....
it's hard to tell when we feel the lumps in our breast, dont you find this to be true also?
its' hard to distiguish what is normal vs abnormal.
my mri showed MULTIPLE things running through both breasts, not just one like I thought it to be. I can't even feel the large lump in my left one.
I hope you decide to get this lump ck'd out. especially since it's not going away and you've never felt it there before.
good luck and hope you remember to come back to the Forum to keep us updated on your condition.

sincerely,
Linda

Dear paulio100:  Most breast cancer is not painful.  However, if you have a new lump, the general rule of thumb is that it should be evaluated.  You should make an appointment to see your doctor.
