Breast Cancer Question

I have recently been diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma in the left breast.   The size of the tumor that was biopsied 3 weeks ago is 1.3 cm.   I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy surgery yesterday.   The surgeon told my husband after the surgery the spread to lymph nodes was negative so they did not remove more than 1 or 2, and that I should not need chemo.   Radiation and hormone therapy is planned.    I had an MRI one week prior to the surgery and was told the day of the MRI that nothing new showed up.  My question relates to yesterday just prior the surgery when they also added another procedure I did not know had been planned.   They used ultrasound to insert a wire into the breast to pinpoint the area to be removed.   I was a surprised because I did not know this was going to be done since they had already put a metal marker in at time of the biopsy.  But it sounded like a good idea to do whatever was needed to else with the lumpectomy.   Today I received the report from that procedure via online access to my test results.  It said that what they were marking was a non masslike enhancement at anterior margin that was seen on MRI, and that the AP size of lesion was 2.5 cm.   I think I am supposed to wait until next Thursday when I have my post operation appointment to get further detail on my results.   But I am confused.  Does this mean they removed something 2.5 cm plus the original 1.3 cm tumor?   I wonder if this means they found additional potential cancer in the MRI?  I just hate to have to wait until next Thursday to find out what this means.   I did not talk with the surgeon after the operation, but her discussion with my husband was that all had went well.

I'll only be able to give you my opinion of what might be meant by the reports ..... my first thought is that an AP view was mentioned along with the size of 2.5cm. There was no mention as to what type of view came up with the size of 1.3cm. the same finding can certainly have a different size depending on if the view was from front to back or side to side or even a different angle. I know in my own case there were different sizes noted before one test and after another. There would be no reason to suspect that this meant an additional problem. There would also be no reason for the Surgeon who actually had visual contact with the lesion to say that all went well when it didn't. When the Pathology report comes in the correct measurements will be listed for the entire specimen. The US wire placement isn't at all unusual in cases such as yours; it's just a further guide to the area in question without having to use Ultrasound to locate the titanium chip in the OR.
