complex cyst

complex cyst

Can you please tell me if a complex cyst and complicated cyst are the same thing? I see both terms used.   I've been told my ultrasound reveals a complex cyst that needs to be biopsied.  It is 8mm; the biopsy will be done via ultrasound guidance....  When my dr. called this morning she did not yet have the radiology report, but had been called by the radiologist and advised I should have a biopsy.  I am scared speechless.  Generally, how often do these turn out to be cancer?  I'm 54; this is the first time I've had something like this.  Thank you.

Dear debkate:  Complex cysts and complicated cysts are essentially the same thing.  These are cystic structures that may have septations (walls between fluid filled areas) or other "structures" that make them more "complicated" or "complex" than a simple cyst.  Most of these turn out to be benign but it is best to biopsy to be certain.
