fainting

Hi,
I fainted during the wire procedure for my breast biopsy. How common is that?

I wouldn't think that it was too common. I suppose it is related to your response to either pain or just the general surroundings. Some people get a sick or faint feeling when even going into a hospital. It's just a human reaction and everyone reacts differently to all kinds of situations. I wouldn't worry about it but you might mention it if you have any other type of procedure done in the future so the staff will be alert in case it might happen again.    Regards ....

Oh my! ...did you happen to look at the guide wire as it was being inserted?
I was told not to look when I was having the wire placed; but, my curiosity got the better of me; and, I looked anyway... good thing that I was sitting down because I nearly passed out!

aw heck...no worries, just so you didn't hurt yourself!!!  i had to reschedule a steroetactic biopsy because as soon as they got me in the room and i saw all the equipment and they were telling me what they were going to do i almost fainted!!!!  i opted for the wait 6 months and check for changes.  look at it this way, you brought some excitement to what would otherwise been a boring routine day for the staff!!!!!

Sorry to comment so late, but I was out of the country (in Italy, lucky me :o) !!) I had to have two wires placed by mammogram and almost passed out also. My radiologist said that it happens to almost 50% of women, so it's more common than you think. I thought maybe he was just trying to make me feel less of a "wimp", but I don't think so---he seemed like a very serious, concerned and caring person. For me it wasn't pain, it was trying to hold very still during the wire placements and not really even breathing properly that made me feel faint.
Just thought I'd share this for the benefit of others who might have the same experience.
You didn't mention your results--if they're in, I'm hoping they were  benign and if you're still waiting, I wish you all the best!
Hugs,
nc
