should I have a bone scan?

I've had a lumpectomy for invasive ductal carcinoma, tumor 2.0cm. nodes 3 of 16 positive. Tumor characteristics: "aggresive", nuclei activity 3. angiolymphatic +. Extranodal involvement +. Tumor was self discovered and missed on annual mammos. Breast tissue "dense". Should I ask for a bone scan before chemo starts? If she says no, do you have suggestions for an encouraging arguement? Please advise asap. thanks!

Dear markowd,  NCCN guidelines for doing a bone scan with a diagnosis of breast cancer is only if bone pain or tests suggest cancer has spread to the bone.  Your oncologist will be better able to discuss whether this test is necessary for you in context of your situation.

I had a PET scan prior to my chemo and prior to my first mastectomy. All it told them was that I had breast cancer in my right breast. The most important scan is the one you will demand AFTER chemo to make sure it did it's job!

Best wishes.
