tamoxifen/birth control

by vermontgirl, Mar 11, 2003 12:00AM
Hi--I was diagnosed with bc two years ago at age 50.  At that time had not had any symptoms of menopause.  Had lumpectomy and 4 rounds of AC.  During the chemo, my periods ceased and have not returned and had horrible hot flashes.  Am on tamoxifen for another 3 years.  My question-since periods have not returned and considering my age, do I have to worry about birth contol?
Thanks in advance for your answer.

Dear vermontgirl, The closer you are to natural menopause the more likely that menopause caused by chemotherapy will be permanent (no return of mentrual periods).  If it has been a full year since the chemotherapy without a return of your periods you are menopausal.

Your question is my question. I just finished taking Tamoxifen in January for 5 years. My periods too have stopped. I suppose it is a wait and see to find out if it will return. I will be turning the big 5-0 this Nov. THE BEST TO YOU.....HAPPENSTANCE
