CA 19.9 reading of 205.8

My wife recently done medical check-up and found that her CA 19.9 reading at 205.8. She was told that she might get stomach cancer and now she is very worry. I saw it somewhere saying that CA 19.9 is related to pancreatic cancer, ovary cancer, colon cancer etc. She is 31 and do not have any symptom of cancer. Her medical report results other than the CA 19.9 is normal, even the CEA reading also very low. So what should we do now? Need to see doctor? If yes, what type of specialist doctor should we see? Need to do CT scan?

Thanks a lot if anybody can help.

I don't think they know the reasons for the false positives. What they do use them for is as a marker for those diagnosed with cancer. In my wife's case her CA125 was 1125 when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Now she is tested regularly and it's never been higher than 10 since her surgery and chemo. But routine testing is not done because of the statistically high number of false positives. I wish you the best!

Thanks for your reply. Her CEA reading is less than 0.5 and no other symptoms shown. So just hope for the best.

Anyway, what is the cause of high CA 19.9 reading beside cancer?

The CA 19.9 test can have false positives, so is usually only of concern if there are other symtoms. Is she having any kind of stomach trouble such as symptoms of gastritis, abdominal pains, or gas. Its level is best evaluated along with CEA marker test. If not, don't be too concerned, but just be aware if any symptoms do show up and see a doctor.
You can read a lot more by searching google...just enter CA19.9 test.
