Doctors disagree?

I had waited weeks for my Oncologist appointment this morning. To finally have a plan of action after gathering all the facts. The news was good. Margins for lumps after surgery were clear and it had not gone to my lymph nodes. Hormone positive., positive and HR negative( best senario). Good News, Oncologist said just radiation with hormone drugs was all that was needed.
Bad News-Late afternoon my general doctor and surgeon said they disagreed, only a .5 cen. margin and cause there were two lumps at 6:00 but 3 cen. apart , they think I should have a masectomy.
I hope my young Oncologist can stand his ground from these two older doctors who refered him and get them to align with him. He should win over after all, as the Oncologist, he is the cancer specialist right?

I think the old way was masectomy for prevention now my young Oncologist says that for my case the data is equal for chances of reacurance with radiation v/s masectomy. Guess which one I choose? I do have an appointment with a new surgeon this week to see if a resect to create bigger margins is needed. Also the radiation doctor will say weather he thinks my margins are acceptable as they are for him to treat me. Thanks for your comments and support.

Get a second opinion from another oncologist.  Tell your doctor you'd like to seek a second opinion before deciding on the surgery.   As a patient it is your right, they should not be offended.  But it needs to be a concer specialist.

Thanks for the comment, thats what I am thinking the Oncologist is the specialist in cancer treatment not my general practitioner or surgeon. I am just waiting to hear back from them this morning and hope they all agree and that they have not persuaded my young Oncologist to a mascetomy. I don't want to go against them and would prefer everyone be in alignment. It's just that the waiting is the hardest part and I thought the waiting was over and we could move on with a plan. thanks gain for listening .

Specialist means Specialist.  A GS and a GP ARE NOT Oncologist.  If it was an opinion from another Oncologist, then that would be another issue.
