Pet Scan

I have finished chemo and radiation for stage 3 smlc 5 months ago. CT in April was good doctor said 80% of the cancer was gone 20% he felt was scar tissue. I had another CT last week and something showed up in the upper left apex. They don't know what it is. I have to have a Pet Scan next week. Is there anything else it could be besides cancer?

I saw this today and thought of you.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”- Romans 15:13

My prayers are with you for next week.

Thank you, but my original question was are there any other possibilites besides cancer.

Yes, I would be somewhat concerned; a spot in the same lung that you just got treatment for.  Like I said, I am just giving you an opinion, could be totally off the mark.

Sorry, you are referring to the apex of the left lung?  I always think of the apex of the heart for some reason, but it still sounds suspicious.  You just typed apex.

The area the doctor was referring to is the apex of the left lung.

There will be no doubt after the PET scan what it is.  I gave my opinion, but I could be totally off the mark.

That is what I was afraid of.  I mean, the apex of the heart is close to the left lung; that is what makes this suspicious.

Yes, 8 years of Oncology nursing in the USA.  Which lung is involved?

No, the cancer is in one lung and is limited stage. Do you have any experience with cancer?

Is the SCLC in both lungs?  Taking in consideration the position of this questionable spot and your staging, I would be very surprised if this is NOT cancer related.

The PET scan will definitely give better imaging than a CT scan.

Keep us posted.
