Access1982,
I was just about 25 when the first one appeared on my elbow, shortly followed by another on my forearm. The MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) did not concusively show that it was lipoma but the doctors by way of ultra-sound concluded that it was. It too was surrounded by blood and classified as agiolipoma (which means a lipoma with alot of blood vessels) and had alot of connective tissue. Now, some people only develop one or two. On the other hand others, like myself that to date, have had over 83 lipoma removed, I stopped having them removed because 2-3 regrow in place of them. Not to say that this can or will happen to you. As previously stated, you may only have those two and that will be it!
There are several types of Lipoma (single or double) and Lipomatosis (multiple). I suggest that you look at www.lipomadoc.org. You may have a spontanious non-familial case of lipoma (if no one in your family has ever had a lipoma).
What really can be dangerous about this is if cancer runs in your family. SOME, not all, GP's will consider all tumorous presences lipomas and not even consider the possiblity that they could be something else. My cousin faced this, she only had 3 tumors, well one ended up being dermatafibrosarcoma protuberence (sp?) (almost fatal). The only reason she found out was because she finally had it removed for cosmetic reasons. So, you see, it is a double edged sword. She was only 29 when this occurred. Please, do not assume the worste thing. Stress can actually cause more lipoma to occurr (it is believed that the endocrine system is somehow envolved). Do some research, contact me if you have more questions.. check on www.lipomadoc.org and go from there. There are alot more reference points from there to start from on your journey. Good luck, God speed. Rob
