posted before please someone answer, cancer?

by jobean10207, Aug 26, 2009 11:21PM
ok so a few weeks ago, i had an infected tooth. i took antibiotics, and the day my tooth quit hurting i noticed i had a swollen occipital lymph node. (at the base of my head, where the hea and neck meet.) about a week later i found one on my jaw line. my question is, how long would the swollen occipital node last? i am worried about it. i went to the doctor last week and she felt the one on my jaw and said not to worry about it, because it was probably from my tooth. but i forgot to mention the one on the back of my head as i was to worried about the other one. i am terrified that i have lymphoma. i have no other symptoms as in night sweats, chills, weight loss, loss of appetite, fever. . .i can't really tell if it is moveable or not, because of where it is and the skin is tighter there anyhow so it is hard to tell. i am terrified. i have a almost 2 year old son, and i am only 26 years old. could this be cancer? i really can't tell if it has grown either. sometimes i think that  am so paranoid that it feels huge, but in reality i am not sure how big it is, as i am higly paranoid. please someone help me. the one on my jaw was sore when i noticed it, but the one on the back of my head neve hurt. also right now my scalp is itchy and when i looked in the mirror to see if i could see the lymph node, i noticed my scalp looked red also. i dont know if this could be contributing or not, but it is on the same side as the lymph node and towards the bottom of my head. please someone help me. please

My understanding is that lymph nodes can remain swollen for quite a while after an infection. It is most likely that both of them are from your recent infection. Stop touching them for a while (over a month) and then allow yourself to check.
I also understand that sore spongy nodes are even more likely to be due to infection.
Take care of yourself and your son and try to not think of this for a few weeks.
